Como si maduros, experimentados, y arriesgados creadores se hubieran puesto de acuerdo en el \u00faltimo a\u00f1o y medio, directores como De Palma, Schrader y Cronenberg presentan sus \u00faltimas pel\u00edculas con numerosos puntos en com\u00fan, ambientes malsanos, personajes superados por sus adicciones y sus deseos, inseguros y perdidos pese al aparente \u00e9xito que los rodea, el sexo como pulsi\u00f3n dominante en muchas de sus decisiones, y con un toque de venganza personal hacia el mundo del cine y sus entretelas, cobr\u00e1ndose alguna factura pendiente con los estudios. Como sus predecesores en pantalla (las fallidas \u201cPassion\u201d y \u201cThe canyons\u201d), Cronenberg ofrece m\u00e1s de lo que consigue dar, su apabullante presentaci\u00f3n anunciando un desarrollo posterior igualmente prometedor, va perdi\u00e9ndose en meandros y deltas que no terminan de desembocar en ning\u00fan lago ni r\u00edo.<\/p>\n<h2>Cr\u00edtica de Maps of the stars (David Cronenberg, 2014)<\/h2>\n<p>En Maps of the stars la intriga pierde fuelle r\u00e1pidamente porque el desarrollo es muy limitado, ese plano inicial con Mia Wasikowska durmiendo en un autob\u00fas con una camiseta que reza \u201cbad baby-sitter\u201d promete un personaje complejo y peligroso, ni lo uno ni lo otro resulta, una enferma mental parcialmente desfigurada por un incendio provocado por ella, que vuelve a Hollywood buscando el perd\u00f3n familiar y una boda plat\u00f3nica con su hermano, aquel al que trat\u00f3 de matar en dicho incendio. El rostro deformado de Wasikowska no es sino un camuflaje con el que intenta diferenciarse del pecado original que ha determinado su nacimiento y el de su hermano. Las lecturas de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revistarambla.com\/en\/freud-y-kafka-una-metafora-en-torno-a-la-crisis-del-ser-humano\/\">Freud<\/a> y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revistarambla.com\/en\/el-extrano-libro-rojo-de-jung\/\">Jung<\/a> para su \u201cUn m\u00e9todo peligroso\u201d parece que tienen que ser aprovechadas, aunque su referencia lo sea en un ambiente nada propicio a la reflexi\u00f3n filos\u00f3fica. El incesto sobrevuela continuamente la pel\u00edcula, ya sea forzado, o imaginado, como el que derrumba mentalmente al personaje interpretado por Julianne Moore, absolutamente desequilibrada, sobreviviente a base de estimulantes prohibidos, en manos de charlatanes cham\u00e1nicos, a polvos con actores en retirada o productores aprovechados, sin aceptar que su tiempo en el <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revistarambla.com\/en\/cultura\/cine\/\">cine<\/a> ha pasado, un personaje en el alambre continuo, asaltada por los fantasmas de la infancia o por la psicosis provocada por sus adicciones. O el incesto involuntario, o el plat\u00f3nico ideado por Wasikowska como forma de escape, casarse y morir pl\u00e1cidamente en un sue\u00f1o barbit\u00farico.<\/p>\n<p>La complejidad de la propuesta hace atractivo el inicio de la pel\u00edcula, ansiando comprobar cu\u00e1les ser\u00e1n las salidas del director para completar la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revistarambla.com\/en\/cultura\/historia\/\">historia<\/a>, para buscar soluciones est\u00e9ticas o f\u00edlmicas a tan osada y arriesgada propuesta, pero como las otras dos pel\u00edculas a las que me he referido, el resultado es decepcionante porque imaginaba un desarrollo m\u00e1s completo y complejo. Como si Cronenberg no hubiera sido capaz de aceptar el \u00e9xito justificado de Promesas del este y Una historia de violencia, \u201cMaps to the stars\u201d se va perdiendo y diluyendo en una sucesi\u00f3n de escenas con una violencia in crescendo, pero sin que el ejercicio de esa violencia obedezca a una finalidad argumental, como si la violencia fuera la \u00fanica respuesta a las frustraciones personales o a los desequilibrios mentales, lo que empieza como drama termina como farsa, y no me parece que Cronenberg pretendiera re\u00edrse de nadie, si acaso del sistema de las productoras a la hora de escoger actores para sus proyectos.<\/p>\n<p>Siguiendo con las coincidencias, los errores de reparto tambi\u00e9n pesan lo suyo, ni Cusack otorga un alma oscura a su personaje, ni Wasikowska transmite la dualidad mental que requiere su joven psic\u00f3pata como si consigui\u00f3 Park Chan-wook en Stoker, Pattison no molesta, pero tampoco aporta nada, y el adolescente hermano de Wasikowska, directamente, ser\u00eda prescindible si no fuera porque es el motor de la existencia del personaje de la hermana, sobre la que gira la historia y el resto de roles, enmara\u00f1ados en la tela que va tejiendo la joven con un prop\u00f3sito final que queda resuelto a brochazos.<\/p>\n<p>Deseando que llegue esa segunda parte de Promesas del Este, Cronenberg sigue sin remontar el vuelo desde su \u201cUn m\u00e9todo peligroso\u201d, aburrida y con una insoportable Keyra en plan hist\u00e9rica perdida, o la exquisita pero fallida \u201cCosm\u00f3polis\u201d y ahora su \u201cMaps to the stars\u201d, por menos a alg\u00fan director le han arrojado al foso de los leones, pero claro, Cronenberg tiene el cr\u00e9dito muy alto porque su obra sigue siendo grande pese a sus notables altibajos.<\/p>\n<p><em>Maps of the stars (David Cronenberg, 2014): Estreno 6 de marzo de 2015<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maps of the stars (David Cronenberg, 2014).
