Tercer encierro de San Ferm\u00edn.<\/strong> Por algo ser\u00e1 que muchos pamplonicas, una vez cumplidos los rituales del Txupinazo, el Riau-riau y la procesi\u00f3n del santo, abandonan su ciudad al llegar el fin de semana. \u00bfLa raz\u00f3n? De viernes a domingo, la turbamulta for\u00e1nea toma las calles y plazas y el nativo parece rendirse ante la relatividad del posesivo, cuando habla de \u00abSu\u00bb fiesta. En esos d\u00edas, como no puede ser de otro modo, el r\u00edo del encierro, recrecido su caudal en proporci\u00f3n exponencial, se convierte en riada: una masa informe de gritos, sudor y miedo, vibrante por su p\u00e1lpito y policrom\u00eda, s\u00ed, pero ca\u00f3tica a pie de asfalto.<\/p>\n

Pese a la masa que se interpon\u00eda en su camino, los toros de Jos\u00e9 Escolar solventaron con gran pulcritud la ascensi\u00f3n de la Cuesta de Santo Domingo, provocando apenas unos pocos tortazos y pisotones; bien arropados por los cabestros, que hoy parec\u00edan atentas madres, prestaron poca atenci\u00f3n a los b\u00edpedos que chillaban junto a ellos en ese tramo del encierro. Lo peor lleg\u00f3, como se espera siempre, una vez enfilada la calle Estafeta, donde la aglomeraci\u00f3n humana era, sencillamente, agobiante. Y aun as\u00ed, con la manada estirada y los morlacos buscando posada por su cuenta, el parte m\u00e9dico refleja la bondad de los corn\u00fapetas: apenas tres heridos por asta en una rapid\u00edsima carrera de 2,29 minutos. Y si los sables de los toros salieron por fin a relucir en estos Sanfermines, no se debi\u00f3 a ning\u00fan ataque directo, sino a un puro y simple problema de capacidad, porque faltan metros cuadrados suficientes para que quepa tanto bulto.<\/p>\n

En jornadas de masificaci\u00f3n como esta, los pastores se convierten en factores imprescindibles del encierro. Se les distingue por su vestimenta verde y las prolongadas varas que esgrimen, utensilio con el que fustigan a los corredores que infringen las normas de relaci\u00f3n con el toro. Un trabajo agotador y, sobre todo, enervante, en el que no siempre puede imponerse la ley del encierro; de ah\u00ed que la furia pastoril conlleve un poso de racionalidad fatalista, que encumbra a sus art\u00edfices por encima de otros administradores de la violencia institucional.<\/p>\n

Antes del encierro ver\u00e1s al pastor encaramado a la valla de madera, como el mochuelo a la rama del olivo. Desde la altura ve pasar a los corredores que buscan su lugar propicio para la carrera. Unos se paran a mirarlo con curiosidad, como quien consulta r\u00e1pidamente la gu\u00eda de aves para saber qu\u00e9 tipo de pajarraco es ese; otros le rinden el tributo de su respeto mediante el apret\u00f3n de manos, conformes con su autoridad patriarcal, tan severa como justa y siempre inapelable. De ah\u00ed que el saludo al pastor se haya convertido en un ritual m\u00e1s entre los previos al encierro, como los tres cantos al santo o los estiramientos de \u00faltima hora y dudosa funcionalidad efectuados segundos antes de que el cohete anuncie la salida de la manada.<\/p>\n

Supongo que los dioses persiguen a los infractores de sus normas como el pastor que corre tras los hijos espurios de la borrachera, castigando por doquier a los infractores de su doctrina. Y puede que esos mismos dioses tambi\u00e9n extiendan su divina punici\u00f3n a los animales d\u00edscolos, cual pastor que azota las ancas rocosas de los toros que se dan la vuelta en el encierro \u2014San Ferm\u00edn no paga desertores\u2014 o vierten su ira sobre un corredor ca\u00eddo. Porque los b\u00f3vidos tambi\u00e9n tendr\u00e1n su alma, supongo, aunque no s\u00e9 si de segunda o tercera divisi\u00f3n, y un cachito de libre albedr\u00edo debe corresponderles igualmente.<\/p>\n
