Siempre alerta, llevaba en su coche una radio sintonizada con la frecuencia de la polic\u00eda que le permit\u00eda llegar el primero a la escena del crimen. Su t\u00e9cnica, de duros contraluces, daba a las fotos un aura de verismo y dramatismo que sigue impactando al espectador.<\/p>\n<p>En su biograf\u00eda, Weegee (Arthur Fellig) explica: \u201cMi coche se convirti\u00f3 en mi hogar. Era un biplaza, con un maletero especial extragrande. Guard\u00e9 todo all\u00ed: una c\u00e1mara extra, los casquillos de las bombillas de flash, una m\u00e1quina de escribir, botas de bombero, cajas de cigarros, salami, pel\u00edcula de infrarrojos para disparar en la oscuridad, un recambio de ropa interior, uniformes, disfraces y zapatos extras y calcetines. (\u2026) A partir de entonces ya no estuve pegado al teletipo de la sede de la polic\u00eda. Tuve alas. Ya no ten\u00eda que esperar que el crimen viniera a m\u00ed; pod\u00eda ir tras \u00e9l. La radio de la polic\u00eda era mi modo de vida. Mi c\u00e1mara\u2026 mi vida y mi amor\u2026 era mi l\u00e1mpara de Aladino.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>La muestra presenta una cuidada selecci\u00f3n de su trabajo, desde im\u00e1genes de cr\u00edmenes, incendios o accidentes hasta escenas de eventos sociales y populares, como las aglomeraciones en las playas de Coney Island o en otros lugares de ocio de los neoyorquinos de entonces. Weegee fotografiaba un cad\u00e1ver, pero tambi\u00e9n un baile de m\u00e1scaras o un ni\u00f1o solitario; en sus fotos hay oscuridad, pero tambi\u00e9n ternura. Sin embargo, una de las singularidades de esta exposici\u00f3n de Foto Colectania es que muestra junto a las fotograf\u00edas del autor, materiales originales de los peri\u00f3dicos y revistas donde se publicaron sus im\u00e1genes, as\u00ed como los fotolibros m\u00e1s c\u00e9lebres del reportero, como la edici\u00f3n original de \u201cNaked City\u201d, que se public\u00f3 en 1945 y se convirti\u00f3 inmediatamente en un best seller.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_13170\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13170\" style=\"width: 278px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-13170 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.revistarambla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Weegee-International_Center_of_Photography.jpg\" alt=\"weegee Arthur Fellig autoretrato\" width=\"278\" height=\"349\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.revistarambla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Weegee-International_Center_of_Photography.jpg 278w, https:\/\/www.revistarambla.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/Weegee-International_Center_of_Photography-239x300.jpg 239w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 278px) 100vw, 278px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-13170\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Arthur Fellig, Weegee.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Weegee, seud\u00f3nimo de Arthur Fellig, tuvo una vida azarosa; se mov\u00eda con soltura entre la polic\u00eda y la mafia, y fue siempre consciente de la calidad del trabajo que estaba haciendo, quiz\u00e1 por eso firmaba todas sus fotos como \u201cWeegee The Famous\u201d. Su actitud despreocupada y sus aventuras inspiraron filmes de cine negro como \u201cThe Public Eye\u201d (Howard Franklin, 1992), \u201cL.A. Confidential\u201d (Curtis Hanson, 1997), \u201cRoad to Perdition\u201d (Sam Mendes, 2002) o \u201cNightcrawler\u201d (Dan Gilroy, 2014).<\/p>\n<p>Casi un siglo despu\u00e9s de que hiciera sus primeras fotos, la obra de Weegee sigue emocionando tanto al p\u00fablico como a la cr\u00edtica, gracias a su estilo descarnado y dram\u00e1tico que consigui\u00f3 reflejar la sociedad y la vida nocturna de una ciudad que \u00e9l conoc\u00eda mejor que nadie.
